Delhi AAP government has announced water subsidies and electricity subsidies within two days after the formation of government with the support of INC as par their election manifesto. Some people say, its victory of Aam aadmi, Some people say, its for new change and turning-point in the political trends in country. Similar treatments have been demanded by many groups and political parties across the country from the respective state governments. These developments have been seen as a path changing and glorified by electronic and print media in our country. its lament that many of us are appeasing a group who gives freebies without considering its consequences and using government wealth for their promotion of election campaign as vote bank politics. Once again, A political party has been started with noble objectives but unfortunately has been trapped in shadow of vote bank politics.
Subsidized policies & programs are not new in Indian politics. Even today, people get subsidy in petroleum products, PDS, TPDS, agriculture and many other sectors. Since Independence, We have been witnessed many subsidized programs and policies of the government to achieve inclusive growth. For inclusive growth, every government implements subsidized programs and policies for the development of downtrodden and oppressed but the target consumers are well defined and identified. In the subsidy program, The Government practices basically third degree price discrimination. It sets reduced prices for poor section of society and fair prices for middle class and upper class section of society.
But in case of AAP's freebies, Target consumers are not defined and these freebies have been passed to middle and upper class of society who can easily pay. Such practices are treated as speed breaker for economic growth of the country. Also downtrodden are not going to be benefited because still they are not connected to network and isolated. Instead of investing fund on infrastructure to connect all isolated poor families, they are just spending taxpayer's money for their election campaign in form of freebies.
Every political parties are doing similar practices and implementing similar policies to attract common man for strengthening their vote banks and AAP is not different decisively emerged as an active player of vote bank politics league. India needs efficient inclusive growth policies by which only the needy one gets benefited but so called innovative AAP follows conservative's way and now looking as an entrenched part of the current political system of the country.
